Washington Post: Arcuri likely out in November

posted May 15, 2010

The Washington Post Friday ranked the top 30 House races likely to switch parties this November, and Michael Arcuri made the list at No. 16.

The Post noted the lack of people investing in Arcuri’s campaign, and the close race he had two years ago against self-made businessman Richard Hanna.

Reporter Chris Cillizza wrote, “Rep. Michael Arcuri (D) said he got the picture in 2008 when he nearly lost a race that Republicans barely targeted. Or not. Arcuri has one of the smallest bank accounts of any member of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s “Frontline” program at less than $500,000.”

Hanna outraised Arcuri in the first quarter by some $150,000, and most of Arcuri’s financing came from outside the 24th Congressional District. About 91 percent of Hanna’s donations were from residents of the 24th Congressional District, and area business leaders also invested in Hanna’s campaign and message of jobs and opportunity.
